About
ai-caring.net is a web application and experimental project of the AI-CARING Institute, primarily implemented through Northeastern University.
The web application is only open to study participants. Participants are recruited and onboarded in-person, consistent with the Northeastern University Human Subjects Institutional Review Board-approved protocol for the study.
Caregivers personally sign a paper Caregiver Consent Form providing detail about the nature of the study, including SMS messages they will receive as part of the study.
Participating caregivers receive two or more SMS text messages per day, depending on the web application configuration they arrange during a personal visit with a Research Assistant. The Research Assistant will review use of SMS with each caregiver during the initial in-person visit. Receipt of SMS text message is an integral component of the experiment. Caregivers may adjust messaging within the web application at any time and, if desired, discuss exiting the study with their RA.
The AI-CARING Institute is a collaboration among universities and not a corporate entity in its own right. Individual projects are supervised by specific universities, and approved by their Institutional Review Boards; in this case, Northeastern University. A letter documenting approval of the project by Northeastern University Dean Elizabeth Mynatt is here.
